In light of the Freedom Convoy’s resistance over the past few weeks the governments of Saskatchewan and Alberta are now ending vaccine mandates. The people are evidently not completely powerless in the face of government tyranny. These tremendous breakthroughs come even despite polls indicating that the majority of Canadians are still opposed to freedom. It just goes to show what a dedicated minority can achieve. As the theologian-philosopher R.J. Rushdoony once pointed out:
“no era of history has ever been governed by majorities, but only by dedicated minorities who have provided the direction to others.”[1]
The obvious danger now is that once restrictions have been lifted and truckers return home, the government simply waits a couple of months to once again re-implement the same tyrannical measures. That the Canadian provincial governments still hate us is evidenced by the fact that they are laughably denying that their moves to lift the restrictions has anything to do with the pressure being put on them by the Freedom Convoy. The resistance needs continued vigilence and we will have to find innovative ways to avoid being caught off-guard in future. Unfortunately we will have to keep the pressure on governments permanently for the foreseeable future. They need to be constantly reminded of the presence of their enemy.
In the long-run a much more radical restructuring of the entire political order is needed in order to provide sustainable solutions to our predicament.
